Ben Aipa for Town & Country

Pictured here is a Ben Aipa T&C thruster for sale on Craigslist in San Diego, California.

I hate to be such a crass capitalist – just kidding, it suits me just fine – but I’m immediately intrigued by the price (seller is asking $650). You’ll see some of the outrageous neon T&C airbrushes command more of a premium, although I’m finding it difficult to really get some great info on various prices. Here’s an example of an 80s era T&C board that apparently sold for $795.

What makes this one special, though, is the fact it’s shaped by Ben Aipa! Aipa, of course, is a legendary Hawaiian shaper who created the sting and the swallowtail…and shit, after those two, there isn’t really much that needs to go on the resume. It’s difficult for me to say how collectible these Aipa T&C boards are – I tend to think that T&C collectors favor the 80s spray jobs, and the Aipa collectors like the 70s stings and single fins more – but to me, this is such a cool and classic combination. I want to say that $650 is quite reasonable, especially considering the good condition of this board, but the market will ultimately decide.

Either way, we can all agree that this is a rad surfboard. Click here for the original listing.
