Light It Up, Mason Ho & Morgan Maassen

Greetings, Shredderz! Welcome to the latest installment in the Clipz series. Here’s a rundown of some of my favorite surf edits from recent memory.

Light it Up by Perry Gershkow / Mollusk

I feel like I haven’t featured Mollusk’s edits enough on here. Definitely check out their YouTube channel for more. Mollusk also recently posted a rad little clip of Derek Hynd and Ari Brown on their Instagram, too. Mollusk’s latest effort, directed by Perry Gershkow, will make you want to pack up some some rad sticks and drive down to Baja in search of some empty waves.

Jungle by Morgan Maassen

Morgan Maassen released a full length surf film a few years ago, but for some reason it was only uploaded to YouTube earlier in 2020. For my money Maassen is one of the most talented photographers working in surfing today, and any time he releases something new I’ll drop what I’m doing to check it out. “Jungle” might not be brand new but it was wonderful to discover. The edit has plenty of talent in front of the cameras, too, featuring Dane Reynolds, Stephanie Gilmore, Noa Deane and others. A few months back I wrote up a trio of short profiles Maassen did, which are worth checking out, too.

Big Board at Rocky Rights by Ho & Pringle Productions

Are you sick of me writing up every single Mason Ho edit yet? Good, me neither. I don’t spend a lot of time here writing about high performance shortboards, but I love seeing Mason Ho experiment with different shapes. Here he rides a 6’6″ Matt Biolos / …Lost thruster at Rocky Point, and it’s a ton of fun to watch.
