Greetings, Shredderz! Welcome to the inaugural Weekend Grab Bag of 2021. It might be a New Year but we’re still obsessively refreshing Craigslist in search of some screaming surfboard deals. As always, the boards below are all currently for sale as of publishing time. Today we’ve got a couple of goodies, including a vintage Dick Brewer single fin, a Herbie Fletcher longboard, and some more.
70s Dick Brewer Downrail Single Fin (Craigslist San Diego)
Here’s a neat Seventies Dick Brewer single fin that looks like it’s in great shape. The dimensions are 6’10” x 2 7/8″. Check out the Craigslist post for more photos, which really illustrate the beautiful and dramatic downrails on the board, and all the foam in the beaked nose. One thing worth noting: I have found it very difficult to identify boards that were handshaped by Brewer himself, due to the fact he worked with so many collaborators and proteges over the years. Seller is asking $750.
Donald Takayama Twin Fin (Craigslist San Diego)
Here’s a cool example of a Donald Takayama twin fin. I love colors on the board, which I can only describe as bubble gum packaging. I believe this was likely shaped in the late 90s / early 2000s. I have yet to get the full lowdown on the origins of Takayama’s twin fins — which I believe he initially shaped for Larry Bertlemann in the late 70s — and if I do, you’ll probably read about it here. Hat tip to KC for sending me the board. The seller is asking a very reasonable $575.
Herbie Fletcher Square Nose Longboard (Craigslist San Diego)
If I had my druthers I’d be buying this board, not writing about it! I love the details on Herbie’s boards. The squared off nose is a trip, as is the ridge on the board, which I can only assume is there for a noseriding boost. The board is 8’6″. I have no idea when this might have been shaped. Check out this similar Herbie Fletcher square nose board I wrote up earlier.
