Art Brewer, Dane Kealoha and La Bomba: Social Media Roundup

Greetings, Shredderz! Welcome to the April 2021 installment of the Social Media Roundup. See below for my favorite posts from the past month.

God knows I am all too familiar with that awful feeling of having wasted a perfectly good day glued to the phone. More often than not, Instagram is the culprit. And while there are plenty of places where you can read complaints about the world’s most ubiquitous photo sharing platform, I’d like to focus on some of the positives. To me, it has been awesome to see various photogs share their work. I’ve been loving Art Brewer‘s activity lately, especially the presentation of his iconic shots set against the simple but arresting slides. The shot above was taken in 1969 — already Brewer’s third cover for Surfer! — and it looks every bit as stunning today. You can also prints of his work here.

Speaking of awesome surf photography on Instagram, Lost and Found continues to post some gems. It feels like I feature a different L&F photo during every single one of these posts, and I regret nothing. I love the colors in this shot and the way it captures Dane’s considerable kinetic energy.

It’s officially south swell season, and what better way to celebrate than with an incredible lineup of Lance Carson boards on display at Malibu.

Speaking of south swells, the always hilarious Surfy Surfy turned in one of the finest surf meme performances in recent memory. Slide number three had me laughing my ass off.

Photo of Barry Kanaiaupuni at the top of the page is by Art Brewer; you can purchase prints here.
