Slidin’ and Nose Ridin’

Greetings, Shredderz! We’ve got a quick hit for you today: a Challenger Surfboards ad featuring some quality visuals and top shelf copywriting.

The ad touts Challenger’s Micro Roller model, which I had never heard before. It looks to be a Transition Era v bottom shape. I have written up other Challenger Micro models — here’s a Formula Micro Vee, and a Micro Platypus — but this is the first time I’ve seen an ad for the Challenger label. I’m guessing it must have run in the late 60s, maybe early 70s. One thing that caught my eye is the fine print says that Challenger is not associated with Challenger Eastern. I wish there were more information available on Bobby Thomas and his Challenger label, but hey, I figure that posting each piece I come across helps shed some more light.

Thanks for reading and we’ll see you next week for more Sagas of Shred!
