Greetings, Shredderz! Welcome to yet another installment of Sagas of Shred, which features a new vintage surf ad every Thursday. We’ve got a classic for you tonight, courtesy of Lightning Bolt Surfboards, four time World Champion Mark Richards, and Rory “The Dog” Russell.

MR and Russell are modeling some Hawaiian shirts for the Bolt label. And if I do say so myself the clothes look pretty good! The ad originally appeared in the August 1980 issue of Surfer Magazine (Vol 21, No 8). I’m not sure when exactly Bolt stopped operations. It’d be rad to someday see a definitive history of the brand, given its impact on the sport of surfing, and all the characters that passed through its doors.
