Greetings, Shredderz! Here are some edits I enjoyed recently. There’s a lot of variety here, spanning the bleeding edge of high performance surfing, to some classic throwback longboarding in Waikiki. Keep scrolling for the full rundown:
I first heard about Toots via Instagram, and consciously or not, I had made a number of assumptions about the dude because of how stylish and photogenic he is. This mini profile, presented by The Surfer’s Journal and Birdwell Beach Britches, is a sensitive and thoughtful portrait that shows more to Toots than his natural ability to look cool while riding waves.
Alex Knost and Vans are back with “Surf Video”. This one ticks all the boxes for what you’d expect from one of Knost’s clips: out there visuals and music, and of course, Knost pulling out all the stops on a mid-length single fin. Truth be told, I found myself fast forwarding through some of the stretches heavy on the ambient imagery, but I love that Knost isn’t afraid to try some shit that’s truly out there and original. I’ll always have respect for people that are authentic and unafraid to do new things.
I usually don’t post much in the way of high performance surfing, but Rio Waida is an up-and-coming force of nature. I could watch him surf for hours. There’s plenty of big barrels, slashes and stratosphere-piercing aerials, but I also dig the way the edit shines a light on Waida’s native Bali beyond its various surf spots.
