Greetings, Shredderz! Fresh off yesterday’s Wave Tools Jeff Parker Model feature, we’ve got another post with a playing cards theme. This time around it’s a 1965 ad for the Hansen Surfboards 50-50 Model. The photo below was originally posted to Pinterest by Hansen Surfboards; you can find the original post here.

60s surf ads just have a sense of class that wasn’t exactly leading the way during the late 90s and early 2000s, when I first started reading surf magazines. I love the clean yet arresting graphic design and as always, the copy is filled with sly references — “for the dealers holding all the aces, page 59” and then the reference to “the hand”, listing out the other Hansen models at the time. This ad seems like something Sterling Cooper might have whipped up after one of Don Draper’s trips to the West Coast.
Thanks for reading and we’ll see you in another seven days for another installment of Sagas of Shred!
