Greetings, Shredderz! I’ve been featuring a ton of Donald Takayama boards lately, with no signs of stopping any time soon. A beautiful Donald Takayama egg popped up on Craigslist in San Diego recently, and it’s a clean one.
The measurements are 7’4″ x 22″ x 2 3/4″. I always have a hard time dating more recent Takayamas like this one. My guess is sometime around the late 90s or afterwards, but I can’t say for sure.
It’s got a beautiful sea foam green resin tint, and you know your boy has a thing for glassed on fins. No, it’s not as practical as fin boxes, but I appreciate it nonetheless.
The minimalist laminate layout is next level, too. There’s no Hawaiian Pro Designs branding or anything, just Donald’s signature bird logo and then two different egg laminates — one on the deck, the other on the bottom. These little egg cartoons are such a rad touch and I smile just about every time I see them on a board.
For another cool Takayama, check out this Surfer’s Choice Teriyaki Sauce board I wrote up recently.
I’m guilty of buying boards and stashing them away where they collect dust, but it’d be criminal to buy this one and not take it for a spin. The seller is asking $1K — or taking offers, I guess — and is open to trades for other quality boards. If you end up scoring this thing definitely let me know!
