“Light of Day”: John John’s First Surf Ranch Trip

Greetings, Shredderz! I saw this edit posted on Stab, and it’s too good not to share here. “Light of Day” was recently released by Aether Films, and it features John John’s first ever trip to Kelly Slater’s famous Surf Ranch, all the way back in 2016. It’s a tidy edit, clocking in at a mere two and a half minutes, but it’s got some striking black and white imagery of John John absolutely shredding the place, with some Kelly footage, too. Personally speaking, I think some of the wave pool footage can get repetitive at times, but that’s not the case here. The combination of next level surfing and beautiful cinematography elevates this clip past the usual offerings. “Light of Day” was directed and edited by Andrew Mackenzie, and John Moore, Kelly’s co-founder at Outerknown, served as the creative director for the short film.
