Dick Brewer for Country Surfboards

Greetings, Shredderz! Not that anyone has been wondering, but I’m still not quite sure what to say about Dick Brewer in the wake of his recent passing. There is no doubt that he will be remembered as one of the greatest and most influential shapers in the history of the sport. I cannot help but think about all the unanswered questions (for me, at least), and the gaps that exist in my understanding of one of the all time greats. The most illuminating piece I’ve read about Brewer is this 1990 profile written by Derek Hynd, which is by far the best profile about Brewer I’ve had the pleasure of reading. In the meantime, enjoy this Country Surfboards ad (I’d guess it’s from the 70s) featuring none other than Richard Brewer.

What a long strange trip it was. I think of him as an edgy beat generation guy who transitioned right into the psychedelic era. In the early to mid 70s, his boards were a very difficult to obtain, even for top pros. My guess for that ad is 1971.
