Monday Grab Bag

Greetings, Shredderz! Is it me or has it been slim pickins lately on Craigslist, eBay et al? I did just buy a board the other week, and unexpectedly, that event has me reconsidering my entire approach to collecting surfboards. Not to get all existential and shit but lately I’ve been thinking about how I want to focus more of my energy on buying boards I know I will ride, and less on stuff that’s historically interesting and significant, but probably less practical. As for the stuff that I know I won’t surf as much, well, I’d still like to document those shapes, but I don’t want to get to a point where I’m collecting things that are basically baseball cards that happen to take up way more space. Anyway, these are but the ramblings of a unpaid blogger, so let’s move on to the Grab Bag, and showcase a few cool boards that are currently listed for sale online.

7’10” Tomo Psykonaut (Craigslist Ventura)

I promise I’m not trolling, but I’ve been eyeing this board for a while. I don’t think I’ve ever actually surfed a Firewire, but I’m very open to it, and I like that the company is committed to trying out new materials and manufacturing processes. I also don’t like this false dilemma that dictates that surfers should either be into traditional boards or newer ones, when I think it’s probably best to be as open minded as possible. This board just looks like a ton of fun, Tomo fucking rips, and it’s reasonably priced at $800.

7’8″ Stu Kenson Twinzer (Craigslist SF Bay Area)

Stu Kenson is one of the many shapers on my long, long list of people from whom I’d eventually like to order a custom board. This thing just looks sick. I’ve yet to surf a twinzer, so it’d be nice to check that off the list. Other than that, this board seems to offer a lot of foam but with some high performance characteristics, too. Seller is asking $700. There’s a rad Stu Kenson Electraglide up for grabs in SoCal, too.

6’2″ Schroff Twin Fin (OfferUp Huntington Beach)

Of course I still gotta feature some vintage heat when it’s right there. This Schroff twin fin is down in Huntington Beach, it’s got Star System fins (I think), and it’s listed for a cool $480.
