Greetings, Shredderz! Welcome to a mid-week edition of the Grab Bag. Here are some cool boards currently listed for sale online.
Surfboards La Jolla Swallowtail Single Fin (Craigslist San Diego)
The late Mirandon Brothers, Bear and Nick, are held in high regard by a who’s who of the San Diego scene: Rusty Preisendorfer and Richard Kenvin, just to name two off the top of my head. (Check out Kenvin’s recent Surfer’s Journal piece on the Mirandon brothers.) I’m not sure when this 10’7″ Surfboards La Jolla board was shaped, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were more modern. (Compare it to this 1970 Surfboards La Jolla single fin shaped by Bear Mirandon, for example). It’s an interesting shape and seller is asking $700.
6’3″ 1981 Zephyr Jeff Ho Single Fin (Craigslist Orange County)
Now that I think of it, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen any of Jeff Ho’s post-70s boards, other than shapes he’s made in the past decade or so.
I can’t say for sure, but the signature definitely seems to imply that this Zephyr was shaped in 1981. It’s only 6’3″, which from what I can tell is shorter than the boards Ho was shaping in the 70s, and the double winged swallow tail looks intriguing, too. The board appears to be in amazing shape. The seller is asking a very precise $3,875 (which I think is ambitious, but hey, more power to you if you can make it happen.) Either way it’s very cool to see such a clean example of a Zephyr from an unusual time period.
