“J BAY”, the latest in a long line of excellent edits from John John Florence, brings to mind Claude Debussy’s quote “music is the space between the notes.” When it’s John John at one of the world’s greatest right hand points, you know there’s no shortage of searing frontside carves. That said, I found myself equally compelled by the footage out of the water, which painted a picture of a wonderful family trip to a stunning part of the planet. The best thing I can say about John John’s edits is that they feel unlike anything else in surfing. His films tap into a root of quiet yet intense curiosity about the surrounding world, while simultaneously showcasing the bleeding edge of high performance surfing.
