For the years I’ve been writing Sagas of Shred, I don’t think I’ve ever posted a single ad for Surfer Mag. It’s ironic considering the vast majority of the vintage surf ads I feature here originally ran in Surfer. This time around let’s shine the spotlight on Surfer itself, which for my money remains the greatest surf publication ever made.

For decades Surfer championed the best writing and photography in surfing. (I haven’t read enough Aussie mags to really make a fair comparison). I love this ad features a beautiful shot from Craig Fineman, a longtime Surfer contributor whose work I really admire.

Surfer is back and publishing new pieces, and I for one hope that the institution returns to its previous form.
